Extreme close-up of a Monarch Butterflies wing
Taken in the butterfly exhibit at the Tucson Botanical Gardens, this “primarily blue” butterfly is called a “Red” Cracker. The reason is because the underside of it’s wings are a brick red. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a shot of that underside, but I sure like the black, brown, and blue colors of the upperside.
A very colorful butterfly, this one spent all day in my Lantana. Taken in Inverness, FL.

They retain their toxicity in adulthood. This stunning orange and black butterfly sits in hiding amidst the cover of dark yellow flowers. He seems to be eyeing something in the orange flowers in the distance.
This white, amber and brown butterfly sits in quiet contemplation atop a long stemmed yellow flower. Additional red and yellow flowers, and green leaves against a pure black background, complete the peaceful setting.
