BubbleWRAP Evolution

"... for the times, they are a-changin'..."

In With The New
It seems wholly appropriate to quote the masterful Bob Dylan for this, the latest edition of BubbleWRAP, because things are indeed changing. RedBubble is about creativity, inspiration and expression; about finding and re-igniting the secret passion you had when you were a child; about sharing your artistic endeavors and knowledge; about learning more and connecting with others; or simply being imaginative.

Now, when RedBubble started out, we created BubbleWRAP as a way to connect our members and their stories - we would share with everyone what we found to be inspiring and noteworthy. Well now it's time to turn the tables and hand over the reigns... that's right - BubbleWRAP is now yours! We want YOU - the RedBubble Community - to drive the inspiration and creative content of BubbleWRAP. We want you to share with us everything that excites your inner child or anything that inspires your creative pursuits. They can be in any form that you find them, be it images or designs, stories or interviews, poetry or tshirts, quotes or collaborations - the list is endless. We want BubbleWRAP to become a showcase of your brilliance.

This issue is the first attempt, so please support it and help us to improve the offering. Send any entries (such as image and tee reviews, member interviews or inspiring stories) to:
tom@redbubble.com

Thanks must go to Sasufi, Evangeline, TBO & Danny for making this issue possible.

Til next time,
Tom

Ripping Image Review

I find Look up: Wires (as shown above) by science quite sensational. This double exposed Holga shot creates more than a simple picture. It has the force and materiality of a Turner painting. I like that it is simply made out of light combined with luck. With a Holga, you never know what you may get, you are always experimenting, and sometimes you get fantastic and unexpected results. This shot has had no post production treatment at all. To me, this gives it so much value.

You can see and read more about Holga's in the Toy Camera Group.

THE COUCH

We've thrown the doors open and now we're looking to let the community take-over. So this week we've given the Couch to ardent Bubblers and in this, the first of the WRAP-Evolution, Evangeline Than has got up close and personal with the goddess of all things cotton & oriental, the talented thickblackoutline.

THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THICKBLACKOUTLINE’S WARDROBE:

Have you ever thought of a thick black outline as sexy? If not, you need to dive into thickblackoutline's wardrobe and rub your cheek against some of her delicious, dark designs. Like I did, until I was caught and put to work writing this interview.

Mystical cats, queenly but sinister geishas, dessert-loving dragon chefs, and hungry, hungry hippos turn a mundane human torso into a hypnotic canvas that will have heads turning and eyes staring. All finished, of course, with a thick black outline.

Mastermind behind the popular Bubblerock series, winner of the 100% RedBubble T-shirt Competition, featured illustrator in Blanket Magazine, Design Federation, and The Age's Creativity Corner, and most recently, one of the winners of the Melbourne Fringe Festival's 25 sacks for ya back exhibition it should come as no surprise to learn that thickblackoutline creates some of the most popular and memorable t-shirts on RedBubble.

Since we're hanging out in your wardrobe, let's pick some tees and you can tell me about them...

No Man Is An Island by Danny Nolan

The beauty of RedBubble and especially with the introduction of BubbleMail is the ease in which it has become to interact with other artists and through this interaction the ability to share, influence, blend and bounce ideas around. My own experience has been richly rewarded by having the support of great designers, photographers and writers such as Lucan Industries, Scott Robinson, sjem, Toxteth O'Grady, Ange , Kathleen and Cathie T.

All of these people have assisted or collaborated and - for me most the humbling - asked for my opinion on projects that have appeared and proved quite successful on RedBubble.

I have been asked to review a Tee Shirt my brief was simple: a favourite old or new.

Well to be honest I wimped it. I couldn't decide whether to follow the evolution of Scott Robinson's Robot's and their amazing progress into black and then to colour or the equally stunning progress sjem has made with each contribution. Then there is always Lucan Industries constant boundary pushing when it comes to style and substance and how he refuses to separate the two.

Not to mention beautiful work by Plastica Tees, Nook, betelnut, bails, TBO and countless others who I apologize for not mentioning.

In the end I picked one of my own that was reworked by the magic digital trickery by the good people of Lucan Industries...
