And SFI – Speaks for Itself. At the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham, UK. This may be true, but here’s a little more information: The SOS was a two-stroke motorbike, championed by competition rider T.G. Meeten. This lightweight had a Villiers engine, & the original SOS name stood for ‘Super Onslow Special’ (not the Onslow played by Geoffrey Hughes in ‘Keeping Up Appearances’...); after Meeten took over manufacture in the mid-1930s, it took on the ‘So Obviously Superior’ moniker, along with another, ‘So Often Successful’. These bikes were popular with the British Two-Stroke Club (BTSC), which is still in existence.
