Spitfire MkVb EP252 FU-J, No. 453 Australian Sqn, Ford, June 1944 . One of the many unsung heroes of the D-Day period; the old MkV Spit still soldiered on, outclassed by the MkIX which is the iconic RAF fighter for this period of the War, and by the German FW190, its arch-enemy. Yet many squadrons flew either a mixture of MkIX and MkV fighters, as No. 453, or only MkVs. These were usually upgraded for use at low level.
Just a fun piece of writing to highlight the Great West Country Getaway, which is a joint group meet taking place on March 22nd 2010 in Cornwall for a minimum of 4 nights. Also for fun, I have incorporated the names of the three groups involved within the poem. If anyone else wants to join in the fun in March, then feel free to join us.

This group is designed for everything aeronautical: wartime aircraft, space exploration, hot air balloons, everything and anything to related to flight. Open to photographs and art as well as writing of all sorts: articles, stories and poems. Any images not following the guidelines will automatically be removed without notification.
Synoposis: Aeronautics is the science involved with the study, design, and manufacture of flight-capable machines, or the techniques of operating aircraft. While the term—literally meaning “sailing the air”—originally referred solely to the science of operating the aircraft, it has since been expanded to include technology, business and other aspects related to aircraft. One of the significant parts in aeronautics is a branch of physical science called aerodynamics, which deals with the motion of air and the way it interacts with objects in motion, such as an aircraft. Aviation is a term sometimes used interchangeably with aeronautics, although “aeronautics” includes lighter-than-air craft such as airships, while “aviation” does not.
