An illustration-style piece, with a great deal of ink linework. Having come from a comics publishing background, a lot of my earlier work had heavy outlines. It’s only been in the last few years that I’ve discovered the challenges of edgeless painting, but I still do pieces like this one for print work. / As with many of my insect/arachnid pieces, I sometimes take liberties with color. Perhaps it’s my studio lighting (full-spectrum bulbs or natural light). Even when I make outlandish color choices, Nature itself never fails to surprise and outdo.
