Medium: Oil on Canvas / Painting Title: Quan Yin, Jewel In the Lotus / Description: Quan Yin (Kwan Yin, Kuan Yin, Chenrezig in Tibetan; Kanzeon in Japanese; Avalokiteshwara in Sanscrit) represents the Manifestation of Compassion in the Universe, the spiritual quality one nurtures within oneself, and on a devotional level the compassionate help one seeks. Quan Yin transcends gender, and depictions may be male, female or have characteristics of both. This painting depicts Quan Yin pouring from a vase which holds the Waters of Compassion with her foot resting in the pool of knowledge. In the background, the dragon forms an infinity sign and is biting its tail forming an Ouroboros. She is intentionally positioned in the pose of “The Star” tarot card. The Willow tree, prayer beads, and the blue bird are all symbols of this deity.
Silver goddess of fertility drum symbol from Lapland Sámi mythology on a shaman drum. Sámi people believed this goddess looked after fertility and was involved with the same in regard to animals and plants in particular. The Sámi people are one of the indigenous people of Scandinavia. Sámi homeland reaches from Central Norway and Sweden through the northernmost part of Finland and into the Kola Peninsula. Culturally and economically, reindeer herding is the most important source of income for the Sami. Living of the nature has formed the original conceptions of the world among Sámi; the world view is animistic by nature, with shamanistic features. They believe that all objects in the nature have a soul.

My version of the Green Man … as the Green Man does show the connection to the nature – and as this painting was made a few weeks ago … it does show the Green Man with changing leaves. Media: Watercolour pencils on watercolour paper (natural white), 220g/m² – 24×32 cm.
This is a collaboration of my good friend Ian Graham and myself. Therefore this work is not for sale. / He gave me the photo and asked me to create something out of it and I did. The original was a B/W photo of the forest. The three women/ The Threefold Goddess…. Spanning many traditions found around the world is the concept of the Goddess as being threefold. These perceptions shared associations with the moon phases, with the growing seasons and with the phases of a woman’s life. Most frequently they are described as Maiden, Mother and Crone. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- The Hunter When in the wooded place I be / Then in the sacred grove is he / The God of Hunters, King of Creatures all / His horned head I see. I sit beside him on the ground / As those in Gaul of bird and hound / His name is written but once, my Cernunnos / And still I know the sound. He rules life and death / And guards the Otherworld / From where all forces flow / And all events doth know. I know he will come / I’ve done the dances / Stay beside me now / Lord of the Antlers, Come… Oh, when sun and moon / They rise up on yonder hill / He will rise inside me and / So shall ever be, shall ever be. / ~Unknown Featured in Witches, Wizards and Warlocks / and in 1 In The Beginning – Ancient Practices / Thank you so much!!!

This is the grouping of the 3 Who Are 1 series. When hung together this is the image that you see. There are some paintings that come to you on soft wings, they give up their secrets to you with the first brushstroke. There are paintings that come to you in a whirlwind, whose creation blows away the parts of your artistic being that is no longer needed, and opens up new pathways and ideals….growth There are paintings that make you fight for every layer that you expose to the light. And you dispare that you will ever be the artist that you need to be..in order to be true to the vision in your heart and soul. These Ladies were all of these and more. Kim

Composite of 2 images / One image taken with Canon 350D / The The Bast figure by Canon 500D In Egyptian mythology, Bast (also spelled Ubasti, Baset], and later Bastet) is an ancient solar and war goddess, worshipped at least since the Second Dynasty. In the late dynasties, the priests of Amun began to call her Bastet, a repetitive and diminutive form after her role in the pantheon became diminished as Sekhmet, a similar lioness war deity, became more dominant in the unified culture of Lower and Upper Egypt. In the Middle Kingdom, the cat appeared as Bastet’s sacred animal and after the New Kingdom she was depicted as a woman with a cat’s head carrying a sacred rattle and a box or basket. Bast or Bastet was the cat goddess and local deity of the town of Bubastis (Per-Bast in Egyptian), where her cult was centered Bubastis was named after her. Originally she was viewed as the protector goddess of Lower Egypt, and consequently depicted as a fierce lioness. Indeed, her name means (female) devourer.[citation needed] As protector, she was seen as defender of the pharaoh, and consequently of the later chief male deity, Ra, who was also a solar deity, gaining her the titles Lady of Flame and Eye of Ra. The goddess Bast was sometimes depicted holding a ceremonial sistrum in one hand and an aegis in the other – the aegis usually resembling a collar or gorget embellished with a lioness head. Bast was a goddess of the sun throughout most of Ancient Egyptian history, but later when she was changed into a cat goddess rather than a lion, she was changed to a goddess of the moon by Greeks occupying Ancient Egypt toward the end of its civilization. In Greek mythology, Bast is also known as Aelurus. Due to the threat to the food supply that could be caused by simple vermin such as mice and rats, and their ability to fight and kill snakes, especially cobras, cats in Egypt were revered highly, sometimes being given golden jewellery to wear and were allowed to eat from the same plates as their owners. Consequently, later as the main cat (rather than lioness) deity, Bastet was strongly revered as the patron of cats, and thus it was in the temple at Per-Bast that cats were buried and mummified. When the owner died they would put the owner next to the mummified cat. More than 300,000 mummified cats were discovered when Bast’s temple at Per-Bast was excavated. Herodotus writes that when a cat in the family dies, Egyptians shaved their eyebrows and took the body to Bubastis to be embalmed.[3] As a cat or lioness war goddess, and protector of the lands, when, during the New Kingdom, the fierce lion god Maahes of Nubia became part of Egyptian mythology, she was identified, in the Lower Kingdom, as his mother. This paralleled the identification of the fierce lioness war goddess Sekhmet, as his mother in the Upper Kingdom. / Informatiom from / Wikipedia)
Abstract felt-on-velvet board inspired by Slavonic mythology and images of nebulas and galaxies. Gigantic flame-feathered hawk whose luminescence could blind as well as cure for blindness remains one of the most ancient and powerful symbols of initiation. This is a key Indo-European myth most strikingly reflected in the culture of fire worshippers (Sassanids, Persians, Egyptians, Hindoos and Ancient Slavs). / Firebird (Phoenix ) embodies the light of Divine Truth and Wisdom, the primordial laws of the Universe, and as a symbol of initiation it is coming into the human’s view in the transitional moments of his live.
This is one of my first HDR photographs. I have always loved tress and with this coloration they really seem to come alive. I encourage everyone to find a quiet stand and just hang out with them for a few minutes. Ancient practice? Be one with a tree! There was lots of time to do that way back when.
These little babies of larger woodland shrubs have waited all summer to get a chance to claim their own bit of sunshine. Drink deep baby. In another month you will be blanketed with deep snow and months of quiet solitude waiting for the earth to revolve back to spring..
Cernunnos is a potent male fertility symbol with respect to sexual potency as well as life-giving potency. He is commonly shown holding a torque (a symbol of power and success) Cernunnos is an old Celtic deity who is known as “The Horned God”. He is the lord of animals, and a special friend of the stag, whose antlers make up his headdress. Cernunnos is the Lord of the Hunt and one of the spirits familiar to warriors. He appears whenever a person acts with wild abandonment, or burns with passionate inner fire. He has been identified with Shiva and Dionysus. Cernunnos is the consort of the Goddess of spring; one of the personalities of the Earth Mother.
