Card size abstract collage using various cut and torn papers and a shell form. Theme and colors are reminiscent of the beach.
This is a 51/2”X7” Collage from a series of Collages titled “Women around the world through time”. I love traditional costume and fashion, and I also have an affinity for foreign culture. Combine this with my love of papers, paper arts, found and handmade objects and you get my formula for the collages you will find in this series. The focal piece of art in each were created by me and drawn onto a shrink material and measure about 1”X2”. This piece contains several layers of paper, acetate and handmade papers, along with confetti and diamond dust. The 3d onion domes were just a bit of kirigami that I thought added some nice dimension and texture to the piece. It looks so much better in person than the scanner or camera can capture.
Card sized abstract collage featuring various torn and cut rice papers, with mixed aquamedia paint, and ribbon.
Third in a series of encaustice works, this collage was inspired by two previous encaustic pieces (“Circles” and “Button, button”). It includes my current interests of melting wax, paper, and buttons which are all strong, dreamy memories of time spent with my grandmothers and parents in the 50s and 60s. Dad was a beekeeper and my female relatives were all ardent seamstresses. collage of beeswax, paper, vintage buttons from my collection, inks on 5” square cradled board
Card size collage featuring various rice and fiber papers, one pressed maple leaf, two pressed flowers, and a ribbon.

This 8” x 8” collage was created on cradled gessoboard, decorative napkins, wrapping paper, and stickers. I used Shiva oil paint sticks to add additional color.

For a recent exhibition we were given the theme “Arrivals and Departures” In Response I used the words of poet Reverend Father Ernesto Cardenal Martínez (born January 20, 1925) as my starting point. “A universe harmonious as a harp. / Rhythm is repeated equal times. / Heartbeat. / Day/night. / Migrant birds’ arrivals and departures. / Star cycles and maize cycles. / Mimosa opening during the day / and folding when night comes. / Moon and tide rhythms. / And crabs who know the tide is on the ebb / and before it goes out have their hiding holes. / A single rhythm in planets, the sea, atoms, apples / which ripen and fall, and Newton’s head. / Melody, arpeggio, chord. / The harp of the universe. “ I responded with a sculpture of assemblage.

(5×7 Mixed Media) In the movie Frieda, there was a scene were they celebrated that holiday(which I hope I spelled correctly) It Means Day Of The Dead, which I believe mostly celebrated in Mexico right after Halloween( which inspired this collage.) Also, So much of Kahlo’s work celebrated her determination to Live but she realized that she faced Death every day as well..
(5×7 Collage) A tribute to the Summer Of 67(I was six months old) but they say if you don’t remember the 60’s it means you really were there& I was there(well sort of..;-)
(5×7 Collage) You’re never too old for a box of crayons(in my opinion,anyway;-)
I created this transfer collage on watercolor paper to express the peace I feel when I tune into my Divine guidance. Through the deep pain of powerlessness watching the death of a loved one, I began to see what is really important in life. Much about life had been hidden from me because I wasn’t ready to have the deeper secrets revealed to me. “The Omniscient” is an attribute of Allah which means the “All-knowing”. We aren’t meant to know what we don’t know. But the more willing I am to go inside into my heart and to listen with a different ear, I begin catch a glimpse of the undefinable. It is a journey of a lifetime, for me like creating art-an intuitive, spiritual, creative expression from the heart. I get excited about the “Unseen”. I get excited about the mystical experience of losing myself in the music of the soul as I walk on my Sufi path.

collage – A picture or design created by adhering such basically flat elements as newspaper, wallpaper, printed text and illustrations, photographs, cloth, string, etc., to a flat surface, when the result becomes three-dimensional, and might also be called a relief sculpture / construction / assemblage. Most of the elements adhered in producing most collages are “found” materials. Introduced by the Cubist artists, this process was widely used by artists who followed, and is a familiar technique in contemporary art.
“Collage” was originally a French word, derived from the word coller, meaning “to paste.”
Assemblage sculpture – A three-dimensional composition made of various materials such as found objects, paper, wood, and textiles.
While I admire quality photo composites of many layers, if the photo collage is the work in its entirety, this is not the group for you. Photo collages can be part of a larger work, but aren’t the focus of this particular group. You may want to check out some sister groups such as Mixed Media or The Art of Photoshop
